How to perform proper daily maintenance on the steel wire rope of C-type steel wire rope pulley?

The maintenance status of steel wire rope, as a key transmission component of C-type pulley, directly affects the safety and efficiency of equipment operation. Proper daily maintenance can not only extend the service life of steel wire ropes, but also effectively prevent safety accidents such as sudden breakage. Mastering scientific maintenance methods can maintain good performance of steel wire ropes under heavy load and high-frequency conditions.

Daily inspection is the fundamental aspect of maintenance work. Operators should visually inspect the steel wire rope before and after each use, focusing on three areas: the section in contact with the pulley, the fixed position of the end, and the frequently bent parts. During inspection, attention should be paid to whether there are any broken threads on the surface. According to the standard, when the number of broken threads within the same twist exceeds 10% of the total threads, it needs to be replaced immediately. Simultaneously observe whether the rope strands are loose, deformed, or flattened, which are often external manifestations of internal damage. For surface rust, slight rust can be treated by cleaning, but if flake rust has already formed or pockmarks appear, it is necessary to consider replacing the rope with a new one.

Lubrication and maintenance have a significant impact on the lifespan of steel wire ropes. Due to the slight friction between the strands of the steel wire rope during operation, regular lubrication can reduce internal wear. Special steel wire rope lubricating grease should be selected, which should have good permeability and adhesion. Before lubrication, use a hard bristled brush to remove surface dust and old grease, especially paying attention to removing impurities in the gaps between the rope strands. When applying, ensure that the grease penetrates into the rope core. Heating the lubricating grease or using a pressure injection device can be used to improve the penetration effect. The lubrication cycle depends on the frequency of use and environment, usually once a month indoors, and the interval should be appropriately shortened outdoors or in dusty environments.

Standardized operation during use is equally important. Avoid knotting, twisting, or excessively tight bending of the steel wire rope, as these improper operations can lead to local stress concentration. Keep the arrangement neat when winding on the reel to prevent squeezing damage caused by tangled ropes. Control the operating speed, sudden acceleration or emergency stop will generate impact loads. Note that the load should not exceed the rated value, as overloading will significantly accelerate the fatigue of the steel wire rope. In a multi pulley system, it is necessary to ensure good alignment of the pulleys to prevent the steel wire rope from running off track and wearing out the edges.

Environmental factor management cannot be ignored. A humid environment can easily cause rusting of steel wire ropes, and rainproof measures should be taken when storing outdoors. Chemical plant areas should pay attention to the influence of corrosive media and use galvanized steel wire ropes if necessary. High temperature environment can cause the failure of lubricating grease, so it is necessary to use high-temperature resistant special grease and shorten the lubrication cycle. Attention should be paid to the low-temperature brittleness of steel wire ropes in cold regions, and they should be preheated before use under no-load operation.

Establishing comprehensive maintenance records helps to grasp changes in the condition of steel wire ropes. The record should include information such as inspection date, identified issues, lubrication time, and usage hours. By analyzing these data, it is possible to predict the remaining service life and develop a reasonable replacement plan. For critical equipment, professional institutions can be regularly commissioned to conduct non-destructive testing, using methods such as magnetic particle inspection to detect internal defects.

Storage and preservation also affect the performance of steel wire ropes. The spare steel wire rope should be stored in a dry and ventilated place, away from corrosive substances such as acid and alkali. When storing coils, they should be kept in a natural bending state, and the diameter should not be less than the allowable bending radius. Long term stored steel wire ropes need to undergo a comprehensive inspection before use to confirm that there is no deterioration or aging phenomenon.

When the steel wire rope reaches the scrap standard, it needs to be replaced in a timely manner. In addition to exceeding the standard for wire breakage, a decrease in diameter exceeding 7% of the nominal diameter, cage like distortion, and exposed rope core all indicate that the steel wire rope cannot be used safely. When replacing the new rope, pay attention to the compatibility with the pulley to ensure that the rope diameter matches the pulley groove type. After installation, the new rope needs to be appropriately pre stretched to eliminate residual stresses during manufacturing.

Through systematic daily maintenance, the C-type steel wire rope pulley can maintain a stable and reliable operating state. Operators should develop the habit of regular inspections and incorporate maintenance work into their daily management processes. Standardized maintenance can not only reduce equipment failure rates, but also improve overall operational safety levels, creating greater value for the enterprise.
